The Little Ant: Traditional Literature
"The little Ant" retold by Shirleyann Costigan is a folktale from New Mexico. It is a story about an ant who was ready to go home, but a large puddle made it hard for her to go home. She asked the sun to dry up the puddle, but the cloud was in the Sun's way. She asked the cloud to move aside, but the wind was not blowing that day. She asked the wind to blow, but he said not today. So she sang a song that put Wind to sleep, when he was asleep she tickled his nose which made him sneeze. When he sneezed he blew the cloud, so the sun was able to come out. When the sun came out the Ant was able to go home since he dried up the puddles. I would use this in a story about the water cycle. when learning about the earth and how the weather changes it would be a great book to include. It is probably for first or second grade. It is not a hard book and it is very easy to understand.
